MeTTa Omniversity at St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology

In partnership with SingularityNET.io , BeyondTheCode.ai and XRAgency DevRel launching MeTTa Omniversity

University Incubator Program

MeTTa Omniversity @ SJIT (Chennai Hub)

St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology (SJIT), Chennai, partnered with BeyondTheCode.ai and XR Agency Dev Rel to launch MeTTa Omniversity: MeTTa & Hyperon for AGI Innovation, a four‑week, NISP‑aligned incubator delivered in recurring cohorts. The program targets around 40 students per cohort in a hybrid format, combining in‑person intensives at the SJIT campus with structured online studio time. MeTTa Omniversity @ SJIT is a live experiment in AGI education: hands‑on, reasoning‑first, internationally networked, and rooted in a local innovation ecosystem.

By teaching students to represent and manipulate knowledge—rather than only recognizing patterns—the program is cultivating a new generation of builders who can contribute to safe, explainable, and socially useful Artificial General Intelligence. SingularityNET / XR Agency Dev Rel and SJIT’s leadership in launching this initiative position the institution, and Chennai, as an emerging node in a global AGI research and development network.

Objectives

  • Introduce students to reasoning‑based AGI (MeTTa/Hyperon) alongside mainstream statistical AI tools.
  • Guide teams to build working mini‑agents that solve concrete domain problems on and around campus (e.g., student services, health, agriculture, operations).
  • Create a talent and project pipeline into the SJIIC incubation environment and connected partners, including XR Agency, SingularityNET, Rejuv.bio, Icoglabs.org

Program design

Curriculum

  • Week 1: Foundations and setup – installing Hyperon, understanding atoms, facts, rules, queries, and forming project teams.
  • Week 2: Advanced reasoning patterns – disjunction, negation, scoring, recommendations, and more complex inference workflows.
  • Week 3: Integration and UX – Python wrappers, CLI/web/notebook interfaces, and basic error‑handling for deployable demonstrations.
  • Week 4: Polish and Demo – presentation skills, reflection essays, and a live demo day with faculty, partners, and external stakeholders.

Delivery model

  • Blended format with on‑campus sessions and structured online studio hours each week.
  • A lead developer based in Delhi works alongside a distributed group of Ethiopia‑based developers who support remote studio sessions and visit in person for periodic deep‑dive workshops.
  • A media and community stack (Discord, GitHub organization, recurring video capture, and a small archive of talks and demos) supports continuity between cohorts and preserves institutional memory.

Early Outcomes

  • The first cohort has successfully launched with strong engagement, functioning MeTTa installs, and early mini‑agents under development.
  • Students are organizing into teams, collaborating on GitHub, and beginning to prototype agents for real use cases (e.g., campus assistants and basic decision‑support tools).
  • SJIT is emerging as South India’s first MeTTa/AGI bioregional hub, with a documented curriculum, operating model, and media‑rich archive that can be shared with other institutions.

Future Vision

Expansion

  • Extend the SJIT model to hubs in East Africa (Addis Ababa, Nairobi) with local innovation partners.
  • Replicate in West Africa (Accra, Lagos) to deepen an Africa–India AGI corridor.
  • Add additional Indian hubs (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi) to form a distributed MeTTa Omniversity network.

Alumni Pathways

Graduates of the program will:

  • Receive ongoing mentorship through periodic check‑ins and community office hours.
  • Access advanced tracks (e.g., deeper pattern languages, production systems, deployment patterns) in subsequent semesters.
  • Contribute to open‑source MeTTa projects and participate in a wider AGI community across regions.

Impact Measurement

  • Student outcomes: number of agents built, teams that continue post‑program, and alumni who move into AI/AGI roles or incubators.
  • Ecosystem impact: projects entering funding programs, pilots deployed in real settings, and contributions to open‑source codebases.
  • Replication: number of new hubs that adopt the SJIT playbook and adapt it to their local context.

Conclusion

MeTTa Omniversity @ SJIT demonstrates how an industry‑aligned, reasoning‑centric AGI program can be embedded within a local university while connecting students to a global innovation network. By combining rigorous technical training, real‑world problem domains, and a strong media and community layer, the initiative lays groundwork for safe, explainable, and impactful AGI projects emerging from the Global South. XR Agency Dev Rel and SJIT’s partnership is a template for future AGI education hubs across India and Africa.
